In this Sweet Pea’s Studio Prenatal and Postpartum Teacher Training, we will explore what it means to call forth the wisdom of our ancient mothers. This abundance of feminine wisdom, woven throughout the fabric of a woman’s life, is the root system from which we grow into motherhood. Women’s wisdom is at the center of working with pregnancy, birth and mothering. It is the very heart and soul of Sweet Pea’s Studio and of its founder, Jenny. In this training, with the vibration of years of sharing, community, laughter, tears, celebrations, heartbreaks, stillness and chaos of babies and mothers coming together, you will learn how to continue to be a source of this Divine Wisdom for others. It is here at Sweet Pea’s Studio that you will draw from the well of knowledge and experience of a respected and beloved teacher.
Jenny became a Massage Therapist in 1991, and then several years later became a Yoga Teacher through the Kriya Yoga Temple in Chicago, where she taught for 5 years. She has taught in YMCA’s, gyms, corporate offices, hospitals, wellness centers, chiropractors offices, many of her friends’ yoga studios, and has had private clients ranging from 5 weeks old to 85 years. She became a Birth and Postpartum Doula, Infant Massage Instructor and Childbirth and Lactation Educator to continue to support and provide the best possible care for her clients. She is now a Craniosacral Therapist, working with newborns and parents to support breastfeeding, sleep and chronic pain. When she opened Sweet Pea’s Studio in 2002, she was one of just a handful of yoga studios in Chicago practicing at the time, and she was the only studio specializing in prenatal and postnatal services, which is still true today. There are more and more pre/postnatal yoga offerings, but Sweet Pea’s is the ONLY studio which focuses entirely on the pregnancy year. Jenny, Corinne Peterson and Lynn Pigott, taught some of the first Prenatal Yoga Teacher Trainings in Chicago, and created the prenatal training curriculum for the Kriya Yoga Temple’s Home Study Course. Fifteen years later, Sweet Pea’s continues to be a respected and well-known center for prenatal and postnatal yoga, massage, physical therapy, midwifery care, lactation support, childbirth education, community resources and family classes. Jenny and her husband Scott, have two children and they have been raised within this loving community. As a teacher, Jenny’s classes are welcoming to all bodies and supportive of all levels of experience. Rooted in classical Hatha Yoga traditions, Sweet Pea’s Classes are fully embodied Prenatal, Birth and Postnatal Yoga. Classes prepare women physically, emotionally and spiritually for their journey into and through motherhood. With in-depth knowledge of the stages and phases of labor and the transitioning pregnant body, childbirth education and community building are weaved into the practice, offering students an organic understanding of how women give birth. Jenny meets her students where they are, offering in a calm and loving way, opportunities to truly LOVE themselves. Her bodywork is deeply therapeutic, and people often describe the studio itself as the equivalent of a mother’s embrace.
